Assign each a race or nationality:
Chemistry professor= Korean male, very conservative proper dressed, he stutters when he talks, he lives in a nice big house in the suburbs, he values money
Rap musician= White male, baggy/loosely dressed, talks in slang, lives in a huge mansion, values money and life.
Gang member= Black male, baggy clothes with a bandanna in the pocket, talks gibberish, lives in the ghetto, values money
Bank president= White male, properly ironed suits, talks properly, lives in a nice sized house, and values money
Hair stylist= Italian woman, Gina style, talks with an accent, lives in a medium sized house, and values her family
Religious fundamentalist= White male, very conservatively dressed, talks very straight, lives in a small bachelor house, and values the church and what he believes in
Goth musician= White male, very tight clothing with lots of makeup, talks very slyly, lives in a big mansion, values pain and money
Militia member= Latina male, camouflage wardrobe, doesn’t talk a lot-very straight to the point, lives in a small house, values his family and culture
Stereotypes: A generalized assumption about a whole group of people based on inadequate or oversimplified facts.
1) It is easy to think in terms of stereotypes because most of the television, media, music and just our general understanding of what people who do certain jobs look like.2) Stereotyping causes a lot of harm to an entire group of people because you generalize and assume that’s what they look like, and that isn’t good because a hair stylist for example just might be a Spanish straight male and not an Italian woman.
